Obituary

Edith E. Roberts, age 90, formerly of 209 Taylor Ave., Ridgway, died Sunday March 11, 2018 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.  She was born August 21, 1927, in Warren, PA, daughter of the late Ernest and Genevieve (Sprague) Oknefski.  She met her husband, Thomas H. Roberts, Jr. in Washington, D.C. and married him at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgway on August 23, 1947.  He preceded her in death on October 24, 1999.  After her marriage she resided in Ridgway for 70 years and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild, a Sunday School teacher, a Bible School teacher, Sunday Nighters, Women’s Circle, and a past Church Secretary.  She was also a member of the Belles of St. Marys Square Dance Group and a coordinator for the Elk County General Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.  She was a graduate of Ridgway High School class of 1945.  Edith was a talented seamstress and a master at needlepoint, embroidery, and stitchery.

 

She is survived by her 2 daughters:  Joyce L. (David) Woods of Ridgway, Laurie K. (Edward) Burkett of Kersey, 1 son Thomas E. (Jeannie) Roberts of Wilcox, 8 grandchildren:  David Poulliott, Michael Poulliott, Jeannie Poulliott Caskey, Tom Roberts, Tanya Roberts, Cyndi Burkett Fisher, Connie Woods, David C. Woods, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson Matthew B. Burkett, 3 sisters:  Ruth Reed, Gail Schunk, Janet Fillers, and 1 brother Gerald in infancy.

 

Funeral and Committal Services for Edith E. Roberts will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at 11:00 AM.  Officiating will be Rev. Susan Fox, Pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens.  Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 PM.  Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Ridgway Public Library or to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
