Norman A. (Chub) Rausch, Jr., age 87, formerly of 18 East Cardott St., Ridgway, died Wednesday morning, January 16, 2019, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was born November 6, 1931, in Tarentum, PA, son of the late Norman A. and Emily (Gazdik) Rausch, Sr. He married Shirley C. Melzer on February 11, 1956 in Tarentum, PA, she survives. He resided in Ridgway for most of his life and was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church. Norman loved to play golf. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed by the Ridgway Area School District for 28 years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley C. Rausch of Ridgway, 2 sons: Michael J. (Cindy) Rausch of Logan, OH and Jeffery A. (Shelia) Rausch of Charlotte, NC, 7 grandchildren: Karen, Elizabeth, Janice, Michelle, Linda, Leah, and Hannah, 8 great grandchildren, 1 sister Dorothy (Lowell) Peery of Logan, Oh, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral and Committal Services for Norman A. Rausch, Jr. will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at 10:00 AM with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Officiating will be Kyle Eveland, Lay Minister of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lancaster, OH. Burial will be at Oakmont Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Monday from 5-8 PM. Memorials, if desired, can be made to Elk Haven Nursing Home or to Penn Highlands Community Nurses Hospice.
