Alice J. (Bienko) Szczotka

Alice J. Szczotka, age 90, of 357 Dewey Circle, Ridgway, PA  passed  away Monday, December  20, 2021 at her home.

She was born in Oil City, PA on August 8, 1931, daughter of the late John and Veronica (Siembedia) Bienko. 

Alice married John R. Szczotka on October 20, 1956 at the Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church in Oil City, PA.   John preceded her in death on March 25, 1985

Alice is survived by her children David Szczotka (Laura) of DuBois, PA and Susan Fisher (Tim) of North Royalton, OH, her grandchildren, John Szczotka, Jillian Caggiano, Anne Szczotka, and Claire Caggiano, 1 niece, and 1 nephew.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 brother Walter Bienko, 1 brother in childbirth, and 1 nephew Daniel Bienko. 

Alice was a Registered Nurse graduating from the Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in March 1952.  Throughout her nursing career, she worked at the Oil City Hospital, Elk County General Hospital in Ridgway as well as the Ridgway Community Nurses Association.  She was also a Teachers’ Aide in the Ridgway Area School District at the conclusion of her nursing career.

Upon her retirement she enjoyed getting together for Saturday morning breakfast with her friends.  She also kept busy visiting with her friends for sweets and dominoes or cards. She also volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Donor Bank throughout Ridgway for many years. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice J. Szczotka will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 1:00 PM.  Officiating will be Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church.  Friends and relatives will be received by the family at the St Leo Catholic Church Gathering Space from 12:00 noon until the time of the funeral at 1:00 PM.  Burial will be at St. Leo Cemetery.
