Daniel P. Sherry

January 16, 1944 ~ June 28, 2022 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Obituary

Daniel P. Sherry, 78, of 206 Evergreen Drive, Ridgway PA, passed peacefully at his home on June 28 surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy, but courageous, battle of cancer.

He was born January 16, 1944 in St. Mary’s, PA to Dan H. Sherry and F. Ruth Sherman Sherry; they both precede him in death. He married his other half, Barbara Buehler Saline Sherry on October 18, 1997; she continues to live out the love and kindness he showed.

He attended the Ridgway School District and in 1961 joined the United States Marine Corps, actively serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War. He worked as an underground coal miner for 34 years, 23 of those years for Doverspike Brothers Coal Company and 11 years at various others. He was a member of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, Elks Lodge, and The American Legion.

He is survived by one sister, Della Jean Ecklund; children Daniel T. Sherry (Lori), Denise M. Burkett (Brian), and David P. Sherry (Jaime) all of Punxsutawney; Deanna I. Arevalo (Santiago) of Missouri, Marna L. Bennett (Samuel) of Kersey, and Carla J. Snyder (Jamie) of Ridgway; 13 grandchildren, Alexandra, Selena, Iliana, Caleb, Matthew, Jacob, Harrison, Braxton, Andrew, Brandt, Edythe, Otto, and Max; and 7 great-grandchildren. A sister in-law Marcella Rickard, brother in-law, Tom Buehler (Roslyn); loving sisters in-law Pauline Dunn and June Buehler; and extra special family member Barbara Tell; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Sherry, and one twin brother at birth, Dennis Sherry.

Daniel was especially known for his craftsmanship, always creating memorable woodwork for his loved ones from any scrap in his garage. One of his biggest accomplishments was the home he built by hand for he and Barbara, along with their two animals Izzy and Widget. He enjoyed hunting with his children and grandchildren, fishing with his buddy Herbie, and puttering around his property. Daniel was a proud Veteran. Above all, he treasured the time spent with those he loved and always provided an open door.
