James D. Martin, age 90, of 603 Stonehedge Meadow, Ridgway, died Friday morning, January 7, 2022 at Penn Highlands Elk. He was born August 12, 1931, in Ridgway, son of the late Frederick D. And Dorothy E. (Shaffer) Martin. He married Jean E. Lundin on November 29, 1952, she preceded him in death on November 8, 2016.
Jim resided in Ridgway most of his life. He was a member of the Awakening Alliance Church where he was an Elder and Head Usher. He was a Board Member of the R.I.D.C., retired member of the Ridgway Fire Dept.-Montmorenci, he was the Mayor of Ridgway for 22 years, he hosted the Christmas Day Happening for many years, and was a member of the American Legion. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School. He had been employed by Paul H. Lundin Trucking for most of his life as a Truck Driver and Assistant Manager. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of the Korean War where he served on Aircraft Carrier USS Gilbert Islands from 1951-1955. Jim enjoyed golfing, playing cards and games with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by 4 children: Cheryl (John) DePanfilis of Ridgway, Steve (Maureen) Martin of Ridgway, James (Alana) Martin of Ridgway, and Donna (Joel) Feronti of Ridgway; 12 grandchildren: John J. (Kamea) DePanfilis, Eric (Jennifer) DePanfilis, Christa (Tom) Buck, Steven (Allyson) Martin, Sean (Cardin) Martin, Travis Martin, Diana Johnson, Stacey Martin, Carissa Imdorf, Rachael Imdorf, Seth (Kira) Feronti, and Logan Feronti; 12 great-grandchildren: Ava and Emma DePanfilis, Olivia, Neil, and Teddy Buck, Madelynn, Tyler, and Charlotte Martin, Conor, Phoenix, and Draven Martin, and Tanner Dickant; a sister Pat Lorenzo of Transfer, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers: Fred, Herb, and Bill Martin and 4 sisters: Maxine Minich, Virginia Martin, Martha Fox, and Sally Kronenwetter.
A Celebration of Life for James D. Martin will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the Awakening Alliance Church with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen's Burial Detail. Officiating will be Pastor Robert Flaherty of the Awakening Alliance Church. Burial was at Oakmont Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Ridgway Public Library, the Ridgway YMCA, the Ridgway Fire Dept., or the Ridgway Ambulance Service.
