Stella J. Maddalena, age 90, of Ridgway, died Sunday morning, January 23, 2022, at Ridgmont Personal Care Home.
She was born March 19, 1931 in Johnsonburg PA, daughter of the late John and Theresa (Manno) Calla . She married Chester A. Maddalena on May 14, 1955 in Johnsonburg, PA. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2016.
She resided in Ridgway most of her life and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School class of 1949. She was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church and was very involved in her church and school community. She was the church organist for over 50 years and was instrumental starting the St. Leo’s children’s choir. She was also a member of St. John of God Society, supported the Good-Samaritan organization, and volunteered for many years at St. Leo’s School bingo.
She is survived by her children: Maria T. Zambanini (John) of Berryville, Virginia, Steve Maddalena (Candice) of Clear Brook, Virginia, and Paula Johnston (Russ) of Huntington Beach, California; a daughter-in-law Edna Maddalena; eight grandchildren: Carrie, Jason, Corey, Nate, Marianna, Amanda, Connor, and Marissa; three great-grandchildren: Jacob, Noah, and Stella; 1 sister Mrs. Jack Carroll (Delores) of Andover MA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory P. Maddalena, infant daughter Mary Beth Maddalena; brothers Frank, John, Fred, Bruno and Louis Calla, and sisters; Fannie Calla, Jenny Calla, Ruth Cherry, Midge Casciani, Rose Wolf and Angeline Sidoni.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Stella J. Maddalena will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Leo Cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at St. Leo Gathering Space. Memorials, if desired, can be made to St. Leo Church, St. Leo’s School, or Penn Highlands Community Nurses.
