Armond A. Caggiano, age 95, of 1408 Hill St., Ridgway, died Tuesday evening June 27, 2017 at his residence with his family at his side.  He was born September 30, 1921, in Ridgway, son of the late Vincenzo and Caroline (Viglione) Caggiano.  He married Helene H. Heiberger on June 6, 1953, she survives.  They had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.  He was a graduate of the Ridgway High School.  Armond was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church where he had been an usher for many years.  He was a member of the Sons of Italy, the Elks Club, and the American Legion.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force after high school in 1942 and served in WW II with the 838th Bombardment Squadron.  He was honorably discharged in 1945.  Armond went on to become a Carpenter by trade and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union.  He then went on to become a general contractor retiring in 1985.  During his employment he was also the owner of the Ridgway Grill.

 

He is survived by his wife Helene H. Caggiano of Ridgway, 1 son Stephen (Dana) Caggiano of Ridgway, 7 grandchildren:  Shannon (Joseph) Hickey, Nicole (John) Cogliandro, Shawna (Brandon) Steger, Renee Caggiano and fiancee Bill Fitch, Patrick Caggiano, Kyle Caggiano,and Sierra Caggiano, 9 great grandchildren:  Alex Fansler, Elizabeth Hickey, Miles Hickey, Armond Cogliandro, Natalia Cogliandro, Brandon Steger, Jr., Noah Steger, Jada Fitch,and Liam Fitch.   He is also leaving behind many nieces and nephews that were dearly loved.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Francis V. Caggiano, and 10 brothers and sisters:  Josephine Casale, Michael Caggiano, Mary Spinosa, Tony Caggiano, Sylvester Caggiano, Romeo Caggiano, Julia Addeo, Victor Caggiano, Angela Romandetti, and Rudy Caggiano.  Armond was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Armond A. Caggiano will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Officiating will be Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in St. Leo Cemetery.  Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 PM.  A Wake Service will be held at 7:45 PM at the Funeral Home.  Memorials, if desired, can be made to St. Leo Catholic Church or to the YMCA Child Care Center.
