Joseph R. Tettis, age 91, formerly of 520 North Broad St., Ridgway, died Thursday afternoon, January 10, 2019, at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy illness. He was born July 7, 1927, in Ridgway, son of the late Joseph and Lavina (Ross) Tettis. He married Sanita R. Ritucci on October 9, 1948, she preceded him in death on February 1, 2017. He resided in Ridgway all his life and was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the choir. He was a member of the K of C, the Postal Union, the American Legion, the Ridgway Moose and the Sons of Italy. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of WW II. He had been employed as a Mail Carrier by the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years.
He is survived by the following children: Ralph J. (Margaret) Tettis of Ridgway, Michael J. Tettis and Karen Leithner of Ridgway, MaryAnne (Robert) Emlikian of Huntingdon Valley, PA, and Paul G. (Mary) Tettis of Ridgway, 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 sister Beverly MacDonald of Ridgway, 1 brother James “Moose” Tettis of St. Marys, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Isabelle Tettis, 2 sisters: Marina Agens and Rosemary Connacher, and 1 brother John “Jack” Tettis.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph R. Tettis will be celebrated at St. Leo Catholic Church on Monday at 11:00 AM with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Officiating will be Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor of St. Leo Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Leo Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Thompson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 6-8 PM. A Wake Service will be held at the funeral home Saturday evening at 7:45 PM. Memorials, if desired, can be made to St. Leo Catholic Church.
