Richard A. (Dick) McDermott, age 72, of 725 Evergreen Dr., Ridgway, died Wednesday evening, January 9, 2019, at the DuBois Nursing Home following a brief illness. He was born November 30, 1946, in Port Allegany, PA, son of the late James and Virginia (Stickles) McDermott. He resided in Ridgway and St. Marys for many years and was Catholic by faith. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School. He was a member of the Ridgway V.F.W., the Moose and the Eagles. Dick was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He had been employed by Ridgway Color and Chemical and GE in Erie.
He is survived by 1 daughter Olivia M. (Robert) Mosier of Kersey, 2 sons: John M. McDermott of Kersey and Marshall D. McDermott of St. Marys, 6 grandchildren: Molly, Nick, Nate, Carly, Tristan, and Trenton, 3 brothers: Dan (Susan) McDermott of Ridgway, T.J. (Debbie) McDermott of Kersey, and Robert (Marge) McDermott of Kersey, a sister-in-law Barb McDermott of Kane, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother James McDermott.
A Memorial Service for Richard A. McDermott will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 11:00 AM with Military Honors accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen’s Burial Detail. Officiating will be Fr. Ross Miceli, Pastor of St. Boniface Catholic Church. There will be no visitation.
